WHAT IS A CT SCAN?

A CT scan, also known as a computed tomography scan, uses a series of X-ray images and advanced computer technology to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body.
CT imaging gives your doctor a clearer view of bones, organs, soft tissue and blood vessels than a standard X-ray. It may be used to investigate symptoms, assess injuries, monitor certain conditions or help plan treatment.
Depending on the area being scanned, your appointment may include the use of contrast dye to help highlight particular structures. Our team will let you know if any preparation is required before your scan.

CT scans can be used to examine many areas of the body and assist your doctor in diagnosing or monitoring a wide range of conditions. Your doctor or specialist may refer you for a CT scan to investigate:

- Bone, joint or spinal injuries
- Internal injuries following an accident
- Blood vessels and circulation
- Infections, inflammation or tumours
- Pre-operative planning or follow-up imaging
